Each November, over 700 students (grades 9-12) arrive at Westfield State University to audition for a place in the Festival Chorus, Concert Band, Orchestra or Jazz Band.

 

These students prepare their vocal or instrumental pieces to sing and/or play in front of adjudicators.

 

Those who are accepted receive their music and attend two rigorous days of rehearsals at UMASS. 

 

The concert will include the Festival Chorus of 200, the Festival Concert Band of 95, the Festival Orchestra of 80, and the Festival Jazz Band of 16.

 

Each ensemble performs for approximately 20 minutes.

 

Some students will go on to audition for the All State Festival.
